0. Introduction In this module you will find some useful information to help you get your objectives in this course. Read it carefully!

The second module is about materials and techniques used in construction. We will study materials like reinforced concrete or steel for structures, the ones to build façades and roofs; gypsum or timber for finishings and techniques such as masonry.

In this module we will have a look at terms related to the different types of foundations such as shallow, deep or piled foundations, the footings, etc., and the most common structural frames, like concrete frame structures and related terms like beams, slabs or columns.

In module four we will study some construction elements such as walling systems and openings in façades, that is to say, doors and windows, types and components of those two elements like leaves, panes, sashes, casements, etc.

In this last module we will examine flooring systems and the most common types of roofs, like flat or gable roofs, including also terms related to services and fittings such as pipes, drainage, electrical wiring and the like.
